Objective in Defining the Inner Woman
I create sculptures using women’s bodies, portraying each as a multiple religions being transformed into a modern day African American woman. They have the feel and textures of a statue that has been long forgotten in the ruins, a “mother nature” type figure or a protector of all creatures, as she is part nature,
In projects of women and their beliefs, we tend to assign one god to one certain group of people, or we forget that nature is part of us and we need it to sustain our earth.
These works show growth over time and combine the human race as one as we are all born the same way and function in similar ways. I want it to show the beginning of something soft, through the strength in the end, like clay that starts from earth and ends in a hardened state when it as been fired.
